Who better to reimagine justice than young women who have experienced life without it?

I Am Why brings young women activists together with researchers and other allies to expand young women’s individual and collective power. By celebrating their strengths and sharing their stories and visions of justice, young women can lead the way to policies, practices and programs that work.

Why I Am Why?

Too often, girls and young women—especially of color—are oppressed, devalued or ignored for demonstrating the very qualities they need to become healthy, powerful adults. Equitable systems take a different course, sharing power with young women and celebrating and supporting the development of qualities such as leadership, loyalty, courage and curiosity.

I Am Why emerges from young women’s personal experiences with a variety of systems. Through individual stories, artwork and research, I Am Why explores the conceptual, structural and procedural ways that systems can fail to respect and support young women and undermine their power. I Am Why invites you to join young women who are leading the way to justice.
